Lanes

Commerce lane

The Commerce lane protects one-off payments for goods and services, with a refund window of 7, 14 or 30 days chosen by the seller.

Who it is for

The Commerce lane is for payments between a buyer and a seller of goods or services: an online shop, a freelancer, a marketplace listing, a ticket.

Each order is one payment. The buyer is usually a person, and delivery takes hours or days. Disputes need human judgement, so this lane uses the full dispute process.

For per-call payments made by software, see the Agent lane.

The refund window

The seller chooses one refund window for their shop: 7, 14 or 30 days.

WindowTypical useEffect on capacity
7 daysDigital goods, fast local deliveryExposure clears quickly
14 daysStandard shipped goodsBalanced
30 daysMade-to-order items, international shippingExposure stays open longest

The window is a trade-off. A longer window gives buyers more time, which can help conversion. It also keeps each payment inside open exposure for longer, so the same bond supports less volume.

The window is shown on the seller's public profile, so the buyer knows it before paying.

Payment flow

  1. The buyer pays in USDC or EURC through UndoPay. Gas is paid in USDC.
  2. UndoPay takes the 0.5% fee from the seller's side.
  3. If the amount fits in the seller's free capacity, the seller is paid instantly.
  4. If it does not fit, the payment is held in escrow until its window ends. Nothing is rejected.
  5. When the window ends with no dispute, the payment is closed. Instantly-paid amounts leave open exposure. Escrowed amounts are released to the seller.

A single protected payment can be at most 2,500 USDC.

Example

Lea sells ceramics and is past day 30.

text
bond 1,000 USDC
leverage 5x
capacity 5,000 USDC

sale 180 USDC → paid instantly
fee 0.90 USDC (0.5%)
exposure +180 USDC for the length of her window

If Lea's exposure were already 4,900 USDC, the same 180 USDC sale would not fit in the remaining 100 USDC. It would go to escrow until its window ends. The buyer sees no difference.

Disputes in this lane

A buyer can open a dispute at any time inside the refund window.

  • Deposit: 2% of the amount, minimum 1 USDC. For a 180 USDC payment the deposit is 3.60 USDC. For a 20 USDC payment it is 1 USDC, because the minimum applies.
  • The deposit is returned if the buyer wins.
  • The seller has 48h to refund or contest. No answer means the buyer wins.
  • A contested dispute goes to 3 arbitrators drawn at random among $UNDO stakers.

The seller can end any dispute early by refunding. Full details are in Disputes and arbitration.

Arbitration outcomes do not replace consumer law. A buyer keeps every right they have under the law that applies to their purchase.

What buyers can check first

Each seller has a public profile with protected volume, dispute rate, lost-dispute rate, bond and free capacity. A seller whose lost-dispute rate goes above 5% over 30 rolling days is frozen to 1x leverage. See Seller guardrails.
